The Holy Supper

XXI.  - The Holy Supper
(Conjunction with the Lord through the reception of Divine good and truth)

1. Doctrinal Core
The Holy Supper is the most holy act of worship, because it effects conjunction with the Lord and consociation with heaven, according to the manner in which it is received. The bread and wine signify Divine good and Divine truth, proceeding from the Lord’s glorified Human, and their reception signifies the Lord’s presence with a person in love and faith.
True doctrine teaches that:

  • the Holy Supper does not operate mechanically or magically,
  • conjunction depends on repentance and life according to the commandments,
  • the Lord is fully present in the Supper,
  • and worthy reception brings spiritual nourishment, while unworthy reception brings no benefit.

2. The Literal Message of the Word
True doctrine teaches:

  • The Holy Supper is about connecting with the Lord and should be taken once a year at sunset the day before Passover. Alternatively, it may be taken one month later if one is unable to take it at its appointed time. It should only be taken by those that have reflected on their current spiritual state and have truly given their lives to the Lord and are faithful in wanting the Lord to change their unrighteous loves to holy loves.
  • Bread represents Divine love; wine represents Divine truth.
  • Taking the Supper helps strengthen faith and love when lived rightly.
  • The Supper does not forgive sins automatically or work without repentance.

In short:
The Holy Supper nourishes spiritual life when a person lives according to what it represents.

3. Spiritual Message of the Word
Spiritually, the Holy Supper signifies:

  • reception of Divine good into the will (bread),
  • reception of Divine truth into the understanding (wine),
  • and union of both with the Lord.

In heaven:

  • angels perceive the Supper as participation in Divine life,
  • not as ritual, but as communion of love and wisdom.

The Lord’s presence in the Supper is complete, but its effect depends entirely on the recipient’s state.

4. Psychological Meaning
Psychologically, the Holy Supper corresponds to:

  • renewing commitment to live from higher loves,
  • re-aligning belief with intention,
  • and integrating truth with action.

False reception occurs when:

  • ritual replaces reflection,
  • belief is separated from conduct,
  • or participation is habitual without self-examination.

True reception strengthens:

  • resolve to resist evil,
  • clarity of conscience,
  • and unity of inner life.

5. Regenerative Process
(What changes in a person over time)
In regeneration, the Holy Supper functions as:

  • ongoing nourishment, not initial cleansing.

It works by:

  • Putting off:
    • careless participation,
    • belief in ritual efficacy alone,
    • separation of worship from life.
  • Putting on:
    • renewed repentance,
    • deeper love for truth and good,
    • strengthened conjunction with the Lord.

Its benefit grows as regeneration advances.

6. Daily Life Application
(How true doctrine lives in practice)
In daily life, true doctrine calls a person to:

  • approach the Holy Supper thoughtfully,
  • examine life honestly beforehand,
  • renew commitment to live according to truth,
  • and carry its meaning into daily actions.

It encourages:

  • reverence without superstition,
  • worship without passivity,
  • and consistency between ritual and life.

7. Common Misunderstandings Corrected
(What true doctrine is NOT saying)
Being a Christian does not mean:

  • that bread and wine change substance physically,
  • that sins are forgiven without repentance,
  • that participation saves automatically,
  • or that the Supper replaces daily obedience.

It explicitly rejects:

  • transubstantiation,
  • consubstantiation,
  • sacramental magic,
  • and faith without life.

8. Doctrinal Connections
True doctrine governs:

  • The Lord the Redeemer - presence from the glorified Human
  • Charity - love received as good
  • Faith - truth received as wine
  • Repentance - preparation for reception
  • Regeneration - nourishment of new life
  • Heaven - communion through love and truth

Without true doctrine, worship becomes external and empty.

9. In Short:
The Holy Supper is a sacred means of conjunction with the Lord, signifying the reception of Divine good and Divine truth from His glorified Human. It strengthens spiritual life when approached with repentance and lived faith, but has no power apart from a life aligned with what it represents.
